WOODS- In
Kirkwood, Tuesday, Jan 28, 1879, Mr. John W. Woods, aged 74 years. Mr. Woods was born
in Knoxville, Blaunt county, Tenn., Dec, 6th, 1804, moved
with his parents to Gibson county, Indiana, in 1809.
He was married first, August 23, 1827, and again, October 17,
1833. In 1844, he moved
with his family to his old homestead in Warren county, Illinois.
He connected with the Seceder church in 1835 where he was made a
ruling elder in 1846, remaining such until the union of the Seceders
with the Associated Reform, since which time he has continued a
consistent member and officer to the United Presbyterian church. Mr. Woods was
taken sick September 21st, with typhoid pneumonia and for
some time was quite feeble, but of late seemed to be recuperating, and
his family were hopeful of his recovery.
Monday, he took a relapse, and died at 5 o’clock, Tuesday
morning. He was a man of high standing, and leaves a multitude of warm
